Nick's broken shoulder. Why here? Worst landing he's ever made. Slipped on ice getting the mail.

Nick...1965...Ton Son Nhut AFB, South Vietnam....next to F-BETM. I can't tell you why I was there or what I was doing flying a French registered, civilian airplane, in civilian clothes. Not too bright , huh?

"Peanut One"

In 1976, as a UAL F/O, I was asked if I'd like to fly a political charter for an unknown presidential candidate Jimmy Carter. I had never heard of him.  Great duty, why not? So, from March of 76 through the election in Nov., I was F/O on the primary crew for Jimmy Carter's political campaign charters. In Sept. when the campaign officially began, UAL told us to go to SFO to pick up the specially equipped 727 which had been outfitted for a potential president...N7635U.

I made the "Peanut One" sign on my dining room table with a magic marker. They were too cheap to buy a sign. Capt. Jimmy Carter was chosen for the obvious reason as a joke because of his name. Jim was a great pilot, and a great friend.

Recently, now 50 years later, a good friend contacted me stating that he had bought a pair of control wheels and asked if I had ever flown N7635U? I launched into that story and ended up making a trade...I now have both wheels here on our wall.

My son Jeff flew 727's for Ryan years ago, (USA Ryan, not the Irish one), and also flew the Emery flights which Ryan operated...where he flew 7635 which had been acquired from UAL.
